We all have the ability to acquire knowledge which is available to us. Studying and revision isn’t always a walk in the park but it is certainly worth it. From a very young age, we have had to learn, teach and advance. Every individual revises differently, whether it is through images, words or vocal- we acquire familiarity and it becomes easier for us to absorb. Here are a few tips on how you can further your educational development:
- STUDY BEFORE SLEEP Studying before sleep has been scientifically proven to help with absorbing information. During sleep, the brain strengthens the new memories which have been formed throughout the day. It allows to retain the recollection of information which you have been taking in consciously and subconsciously. So remember, when you have to study there’s a good chance that you should do so whilst you are tired… Just remember not to bring your work into the bedroom because it will make it much harder to go sleep.
- REPETITION Devise a way for yourself so you can space out your learning rather than trying to consume everything at once. This technique is called space repetition and it involves breaking information into smaller chunks and reviewing them consistently. Learn few rules at a time and perfect each of them before moving onto the next.
- NEW ENVIRONMENTS
According to research if we revise the same topics in a different place every day we will learn far more than revising within the same place. Each and every time we move around we energise our brains to start forming new associations with the same topics. However, if we remain in the same place our brain becomes uninterested to study.
- WRITE IT DOWN
Writing out the material you are revising aids in remembering the information. Research suggests that when we write down information we store it much more securely which allows us to recall it easier. We suggest that you should re-write any notes which you have taken throughout your time in education.
- DRINK THAT CUPPA
This last point is no secret. Any individual who has been a student, a worker- whether employer or employee, business person or teacher know that consuming caffeine keeps us much more engaged. There is a ton of proof and research which confirms that drinking tea or coffee allows us to be more alert. However, of course, we don’t advise the over consumption of caffeine but everything in moderation is fine.
