English as a Lingua Franca
The English language is one of the most commonly spoken languages in the world. It is either a native language or a second language that many people learn, therefore, it is considered as a Lingua Franca. The term “Lingua Franca” refers to a language that is commonly spoken by two individuals from different countries as a common means of communication. For instance, a German speaker would speak English to a French speaker and visa versa.
English is predominantly used in international business and academia, as most literature and research projects have been recorded in English. It is an effective way to communicate as many can understand the language due to the systematic structure of sentences. Nevertheless, if you are not a native speaker, don’t be distressed as the English language is considered to be an easy language to pick up, so don’t give up!
