Terms & Conditions

General

  • You must read, understand & agree to the Terms and Conditions document. If you require any assistance e.g. an interpreter, arrangements can be made for you by The Language Fair.
  • The Terms and Conditions below are in respects to the association between you (the student) and us (The Language Fair).
  • The Language Fair reserves the rights to adjust its Terms and Conditions at any given time.

Registration

  • To enrol into a course you will be required to do the English test which is provided for you by The Language Fair.
  • It is compulsory for you to provide photo ID (a passport or ID card) to complete your application. We will take a copy of the relevant documents which you have presented. If you fail to give us the required documents during your enrolment we have the authorisation to cancel your registration.
  • The Language Fair provides a ‘Parental Consent Form’ for those students who are under 18. Parent/s or guardians of the student must sign the document for the approval to register.

Payment and fees

  • Payment must be received in full before starting the course. In an unexpected case for course cancellation, withdrawal or visa refusal, please refer to part 4.
  • The Language Fair is not responsible for any bank charges incurred by international bank transfer. Please remember to quote your full name when making your payment.
  • A registration fee of £35 is payable for all new enrolments. There are no registration fees for full- time day classes which you have paid a minimum of 14 weeks of study or more.
  • Your total course fees are made up of the following:
    • Course registration fee
    • Course fee
    • Course material fee
    • Bank transfer fee (if applicable)
  • No part of your booking is confirmed until payment is received in full.
  • All fees are payable in GBP (£). If you pay using another currency, the final payment received should be the correct amount in GBP (£) after currency exchange and any bank charges incurred.
  • The Language Fair has the institutional rights to change the published fees.
  • Course discounts are valid from the dates advertised. Discounts cannot be applied after the expiration date published.

Course cancellation and refund

You have the right to cancel your booking at any time on the following terms:

  • Cancellation periods are based on the school’s working day between 9.00 and 18.00 Monday to Friday. You can contact us via phone on 020 7018 3710 or email info@thelanguagefair.com. If a cancellation notice is received after these hours, the notice period will be counted from the next working day.
  • Only written notifications of the intention to cancel are accepted and should be sent by email to: info@thelanguagefair.com.
  • In case of a cancellation notice before the course start date, there will be a £100 cancellation fee (this fee includes the £35 registration fee).
  • In case of a cancellation notice during the course start date, a £35 registration fee and a cancellation fee up to £100 admin fee will be applied + deduction of period studied.
  • The Language Fair cannot process a refund if you have decided to change your mind about attending your chosen course after you have already started. You cannot for example, reduce the number of committed hours and convert them into one-to-one classes.
  • You will not be able to get a refund after attending 2 weeks of classes.
  • In case of any serious breach of the classroom regulations, The Language Fair has the right to terminate your course. In this situation no refunds will be made.
  • Please allow up to 21 working days to receive any agreed refunds for course fees.
  • Once the student has booked a course, it is not possible to change courses. If the student wants to change e.g. evening classes for one-to-one classes, the student must pay the cancellation fee and re-apply for the new course.
  • You must give 24 hours’ notice on a weekday to cancel a one-to-one class or you will be charged the full fee for the lesson. This can be agreed with by the admin and your teacher.
  • If classes are missed due to serious illness or the death of a close family member, the student can retake the classes 3 weeks later, on condition that the student gives immediate notice of the situation and it is approved. The school has the right to ask you for an absence note.
  • The refund will be made via bank transfer once The Language Fair has agreed to do so. You (the student) will be required to send an email to: info@thelanguagefair.com stating your name and the bank details of where you want to receive the refund. Without these details we cannot process the refund in an alternative way.
  • Refunds can only be paid to the person who made the payment in the first place.
  • Tuition and registration fees are non-refundable in the case of late or no-show students.
  • In the event of the school being unable to supply services to which it is contractually bound resulting from causes outside the school’s control, such as, but not limited to, natural disasters, labour disputes, government action, etc. refunds will not be made.
  • If documents have been issued for a visa application, you may only apply for a refund if your visa has been refused.
  • If your visa is refused and you want to apply for a refund of fees, you must do so within two weeks of the refusal date and before the course start date, whichever is the soonest. The school will refund any course fees paid, minus a charge of the £35 registration fee + admin fee up to £100. The refund will be paid once we have received your original visa refusal letter from the Embassy or Consulate plus a copy of your passport photo page.
  • The school will not refund administration fees, accommodation deposits or courier fees.

Offers

  • Occasionally the institution will have promotional offers and discounts.
  • Course discounts are valid from the dates advertised. Discounts cannot be applied after the expiration date published.
  • If you recommend a friend to us, you will both earn a free week of study at TLF. Your friend will need to have enrolled on a course to be able to attain this offer.
  • You will be entitled to a 30% discount on our TLF courses if you have been with us for more than one year of full-time We take the gap of student attendance into consideration (evidence is taken from the course payment date and the student attendance).
  • Students will be entitled to receive a 30% Oyster card discount. This offer can only be applied to full- time courses except for one-to-one classes. (Full- time courses are 15+ hours per week).

Attendance

  • Students are expected to attend regularly on time. When students come late to class it can have a potential effect on disrupting the lecture. Additionally, if you are aware that you will be late please call 0207 018 3710 and let an admin know. The teacher is permitted the right to refuse entry to the lesson if you are more than 30 minutes late without notice.
  • If the student cannot attend a lesson, a notice of absence must be emailed to info@thelanguagefair.com at least 24h in advance. If you are absent with notice for more than one week you will be allowed to retake the classes which were missed, on condition that your notice has been approved by The Language Fair. However, if it is less than a week, you will not be able to repeat the class which you have missed.
  • The duration of the number of weeks on a course cannot be extended by reducing the number of hours of study per week.
  • There is no reduction in fees where a public holiday falls within your course dates, except for one-to-one lessons which can be rescheduled.
  • Holidays can only be taken during the school closure dates: 20 December 2020 – 4 January 2021.
  • In case of absence of the teacher, the school will provide an alternative substitute. The students are expected to adapt to the circumstances. If the student decides not to attend because of the provided solution, he/she won’t be able to redeem the missed hours.
  • Under no circumstance can students allow someone else to attend their courses.
  • The school is open during bank holidays. But in case if it is unexpectedly closed we will notify you 2 weeks before the bank holiday.
  • To obtain the student discount Oyster Card you will need to be enrolled as a full-time student and have at least 80% of attendance in your chosen course. Consequently, if this condition is not met, we have the right to cancel your student Oyster membership.

Regulations in the classroom

  • English is the language in the classroom. That would lead to higher efficiency of the course and will help you increase your level quickly.
  • All students should show respect; be polite to the fellow students and all The Language Fair school` staff.
  • All students must behave in a respectful and appropriate manner. The Language Fair identifies the following examples as unacceptable behaviour: name calling, verbal abuse, anti-social behaviour, threatening language or behaviour, extremism, intimidation, physical abuse, bullying and harassment (including racist, sexist and homophobic abuse). Any behaviour that disrupts or hinders learning in the classroom and/or beyond is considered as unacceptable.
  • During the classes, you are not permitted to use your phone unless you are allowed by the teacher.
  • Smoking is not allowed anywhere in the building.
  • Keep the classroom tidy. All rubbish must be thrown in the bins and not left on the tables or anywhere else in the classroom.
  • No vandalism. You must not write/carve or damage any of the school properties.

Complaints

We listen to your complaints, treat them seriously and learn from them so that we can continuously improve our service. We will not tolerate threatening, abusive or unreasonable behaviour by any complainant. Any complaints with our services should be addressed via mail to compliance@thelanguagefair.com.

Miscellaneous

  • Sometimes the Language Fair takes photographs and videos during our courses that may be used for promotional purposes. Please advise us at the time of booking if you do not wish to appear in any promotional material.
  • Maintaining an academic reputation: by agreeing to enrol as a student of The Language Fair, you must not participate in any action which may cause either your own personal academic status or the reputation of The Language Fair to be dishonoured.
  • These Terms and Conditions are directed by English Law and shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the English courts.
